The data were spectacular,
considering the measurements never made before
and we had no idea if we’d even find anything.

We were surprised and rewarded for our curiosity
about enduring consequences of
microgravity.

Weightless hearts compensate
and pump more blood than cells create.
This diminishment of strength goes unnoticed in space,
but continues even upon return to solid ground such as on Earth
threatening anemic weakness with every beat.
Possessed by the thrill of discovery –
while grounded here reliving
microgravity.

(Instru.)

The conclusion nearly impossible to believe –
we’ve now drifted apart without
microgravity.
